    Guarantee

At Highgarden Roses, we stand behind the quality of our plants. If your rose fails to survive within the first 100 days, we'll make it right with a replacement store credit equal to the purchase price.

To qualify, the rose must show clear signs of failure to survive (e.g., brown, brittle canes, or no living green tissue). Seasonal changes such as leaf drop, temporary transplant shock, or winter dormancy are not covered, as these are part of a rose's natural growth cycle.

Please report any concerns within 100 days by emailing us with your order number and photos with the name tag. We will issue store credit equal to the replacement cost of the rose, excluding taxes and shipping. Store credit can be used on any future purchases, excluding gift cards, and does not expire.

Replacement coverage is limited to one replacement claim per order. Once a replacement store credit has been issued for an order, no additional replacement claims or credits will be provided for that same order.

Well packaged, small but hopefully will take off

I ordered 2 roses from Highgarden. Communication was good and plants arrived safely. The spirit of freedom seems to be doing well, but the Jude Obscure has 2 branches that soon turned black and I’m not sure if it’ll survive.

    Hi Tina,

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We’re glad to hear the communication was good and that your roses arrived safely, and it’s great to know the AUSbite is doing well.

We’re sorry to hear about the concern with your AUSjo and the branches turning black. We understand how worrying that can be, especially when you’re trying to get a new plant established.

We appreciate you taking the time to leave feedback, and we hope your remaining rose continues to grow and thrive.

    Warm regards,

    Spirit of Freedom!

I’ve been growing Spirit of Freedom for about 5 years now, it’s a beautiful pink rose with sometimes huge blooms that are so large they look like they’re going to just burst and fall apart by the sheer number and size of its flowers and petals! The roses look like peonies or sometimes little cabbages, often times being deeply cupped. This rose has over 200 petals per bloom which is impressive and there is a moderate to rarely strong scent from time to time. It grows tall and is definitely a climber. I will say however like many of David Austin’s older rose varieties it’s not very disease resistant and can suffer from black spot, mildew and rust if not sprayed every so often in my climate. But it’s such a beautiful rose that I think it’s worth the extra bit of attention that’s needed!

    Hi James,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review for our roses. We appreciate your kind words and are glad to hear that you have been enjoying growing this rose for the past 5 years.

We agree that this rose is stunning with its large, peony-like blooms and moderate to strong scent. We understand that it may require extra attention in terms of disease control, but we believe its beauty makes it worth the effort.

Thank you again for your feedback and for choosing Highgarden Roses.

High Garden roses never disappoints. The first time you order from an online nursery, you really do not know if you are going to receive the correct plants, if they will be healthy, sometimes even if they will be alive. Having had that happen already I was hesitant and I’m so glad I took a chance. The first rose, I received from them was larger than expected well left out strong root system, and no sign of disease. I waited to write a review to see if it would make it through the winter and it has. When I have had to contact them, the Customer Service is swift, and very nice. Just got my springtime order and the five plants I received are better than I could’ve hoped. This is a company you can trust.

A Great Source for Ownroot Roses!!

I am so happy to have found Highgarden Roses!! It seems to be an unfortunate pattern of mine to fall in love with a particular rose a few years after other growers have stopped producing it, and since I’m committed to buying only ownroot roses, it’s even more difficult for me to find that “special rose”. I was able to find exactly what I wanted with Highgarden Roses and, as a bonus, they’re located relatively close to where I live so the roses weren’t traumatized by a cross country trip. My new roses have been with me only a short time but they are doing beautifully and seem to be thriving in their new home. I also appreciate the high quality of the customer service. I had a question about shipping and received a very prompt response to my email. I look forward to watching my new roses grow and am delighted to have found a new place where I can find high quality, ownroot roses!!

    Hi Adrienne!

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a lovely review. We are thrilled that you were able to find your 'special rose' with us at Highgarden Roses. We are committed to providing high quality ownroot roses and we are so glad that they are thriving in their new home. We are always here to help and we are grateful for your kind words about our customer service. Thank you again for choosing us, we look forward to seeing your roses grow as well.

    FAQs

    Where do you ship to?

We ship to all 50 states within the US from our licensed nursery in Portland, Oregon.

Due to restrictions on plant export, we do not ship outside of the US at this time.

    How much does shipping cost?

We offer free standard USPS Ground Advantage shipping for orders over $150.

For orders less than $150, a flat fee of $15 will be applied.

How soon will I receive my order?

    Processing time

    • In-stock: typically ship within 10 business days.
    • Pre-order: usually require an additional 6–10 weeks before shipment.

    Combined shipments
If your order includes both in-stock and pre-order items, they will be shipped together once all items are ready. Requesting separate shipments may result in additional shipping fees.

    Estimated transit times (after dispatch)

    • USPS Ground Advantage: 3–5 business days
    • USPS Priority Mail: 2–3 business days
    • UPS 3 Day Select: 3 business days

Please note: Delivery timeframes are estimates only. While we make every effort to dispatch orders promptly, we are unable to guarantee exact delivery dates due to potential carrier delays or adjustments needed to ensure plant health. Certain roses may require additional time to reach optimal shipping condition, particularly during seasonal transitions.

In rare instances, shipments may be temporarily held due to extreme weather to protect plant quality.

    Can you postpone shipment?

If your weather is not suitable for planting, you can choose to delay shipment for up to 12 months at no cost.

Please choose a date on the bottom of the shopping cart before checkout to indicate your preferred ship month.

Are your roses own-root or grafted?

Over 95% of our roses are own-root, propagated from cuttings.

Occasionally we may offer a grafted version for newer varieties. They are specified in the product description.

Are your roses potted or bare root?

You will receive a healthy rose bush. The roots will be protected by plastic wrap.

We may defoliate and prune the stems prior to shipping. As a result, your rose bush may not come with leaves or flower buds. It will form new shoots and buds once planted in soil.

In winter months, we may elect to ship your rose with little or no soil as they are dormant.

What is the difference between S, M, and L?

We offer multiple sizes of rose bushes:

S: Your rose is 4-6 months old, grown in 4" pots.

M: Your rose is 1 year old, grown in 6" pots.

L: Your rose is 1.5-2 years old, grown in 8"-10" pots.

Individual sizes may vary depending on the variety of the rose.

What are the differences between florist and garden roses?

Florist roses are typically bred for cut-flower use — they have long, straight stems, large symmetrical blooms, and a longer vase life, making them ideal for bouquets and arrangements. Garden roses, on the other hand, are grown for planting outdoors — they offer a wider variety of shapes, colors, and fragrances, often with more petals and a softer, more natural look, but they usually have shorter stems and a shorter vase life compared to florist roses.

    What is your return policy?

Due to the nature of live plants, we currently do not accept returns.

Do you sell roses year round?

All of our roses are grown outdoors in Portland, Oregon.

We ship all 12 months of the year.

Roses can be planted at any time except during extreme heat or cold.

You can order your rose anytime and choose to delay shipment for up to 12 months.

Our roses are shipped semi-dormant in November, dormant from December to February, semi-dormant in early March, and non-dormant for the rest of the year.

    Do you offer in-person pickup?

Unfortunately we do not offer in-person pickup at this time.

    Are you a licensed nursery?

Yes we are a licensed nursery registered with the Oregon Department of Agriculture.

Are you affiliated with rose breeders or third party growers?

All roses on this website are grown by Highgarden Roses.

The names of roses and breeders mentioned on our website are used solely for comparison purposes.

Highgarden Roses does not own the trademarks for these rose names, nor are we affiliated with, endorsed by, or licensed by any third-party companies, breeders, or growers.

I sent a message but haven’t received a response. What should I do?

Please allow 1–2 business days for a response. In the meantime, check your spam/ junk folder and make sure your inbox isn’t full. If you still don’t hear from us after 2 business days, please resend your message or email us from another address.

Why does my rose look smaller than expected?

Our roses are own-root (not grafted). Grafted roses can look bigger faster because they’re grown on a vigorous rootstock, while own-root roses often start smaller as they establish. The upside is long-term: an own-root rose grows from its own variety from roots to canes, can be more resilient if it’s cut back or stressed, and you won’t get unwanted rootstock shoots. We also offer multiple sizes - our Small size is band-size, which is naturally petite by design.

For safe shipping and stronger growth, we may prune canes and reduce top growth before sending. Pruning helps the plant focus energy on rooting, and it also encourages new breaks and branching, which leads to a fuller plant over time. With proper planting and care, your rose will settle in, push fresh growth, and size up.

How often do you restock your roses?

We restock our roses every week. New plants are added regularly depending on availability and season. You can also sign up for a “Back in Stock” alert on the product page. Just make sure to choose the exact size you want so you’ll be notified when it’s available again.
